Yee HAW!

Well I was going to write a blog about our trip to Texas for sister Julie and new BIL Shea's wedding last weekend.

But sister Laura beat me to it. And since her blog basically says all the same things mine would have said, I'm just going to put a link to it and you can read it if you feel so inclined.

It's also a little creepy how we sound the same in writing.  Def. Sisters.

Also wanted to include a few pictures that I have that Laura didn't.

One of me and Joey, for good measure

Doggles

A package arrived in the mail today... it was not addressed to me.  It was not addressed to Joey.

It was addressed to Doc!
I questioned him about his purchase.

He ran away.

So I opened the package.

Have you ever heard of Doggles?  That's right. Goggles for Dogs.

Looks like somebody got a little bored in their crate during the work day............................

He may have ordered them but he sure didn't want to wear them. (I wonder why?) After some coaxing, teeth baring, and finally, submission, we had a little modeling session.

I think he was saying "You POOR dog!"

What a good boy!

Welcome Home Peyton!

Monday morning came bright and early for us.  We found out on Friday that Peyton was coming home from Iraq!!!!!! Well we were not going to let our brother-from-another-mother fly into Dulles without any fanfare.  So we organized a little gathering to ensure that Peyton knew how much he means to us!

His flight was set to land at 6:45am on Monday. Early? Yes. But worth it.  Sunday night, we checked the flight tracker.  The flight was running AN HOUR EARLY.  Did we back down? Nope. We woke up at o’dark thirty and drove to the airport (yes, even Joey) to welcome home our hero.

Wait, is Peyton in the military?  No, he is a military contractor.  His company works with the Iraqis teaching them how to repair their vehicles.  Peyton is a highly certified mechanic, and really enjoyed his job there.  Even though he is not a soldier, he was still subject to the same stress, homesickness, threats, and nighttime rushes to the bunker.  I believe that Peyton, while not a soldier, has certainly served our Country and done it well.  So thank you for your service, P!

Here are some pictures. Don’t judge me on my looks, it was 5am:

We made signs...
Here he comes!
Hugs all around
Teddy thought a Shake Weight was a very American gift.

Welcome home, P. We are glad you are safe, sound, and for all the experiences you had and friends you made. But dammit don’t do that to us again, ok?!?!?!

All 7 welcomers, and one happy Peyton (well two, cause one is his brother.)

Relief

Boy, am I glad I'm going to Texas this weekend!  We're going to have balmy temperatures in the 90s, while all you people in DC enjoy 100s, 105s, and 110s.  Have fun with that!!

Good News/Bad News

Well the good news is that I am now immune to Tetanus, Diptheria, and Whooping Cough for the next 10 years.

That's always a good way to start off a post, right?  You may find yourself wondering how I found myself in the surprisingly nice, clean, and empty Woodbridge Urgent Care today after work.  You may also find yourself wondering what the bad news is, ya know, since the good news is that I'm not going to die of any of those things.

Well yesterday, being my birthday, was of course a huge let down.  I've noticed that the older I get, the more lame my birthdays become.  So did this drive me to stab myself with a rusty metal object?? Well, no.

We're still (instert joke here) living with the in-laws, and they decided to schedule the replacement of their entire roof for yesterday.  At 5:55am, we were softly awoken by the sound of angry canines barking, howling, and in Doc's case, shrill screeching at the roofers who had shown up to begin their task.  Doc was tossed down the basement stairs, but not before taking a chomp at MIL's hand.  Then he proceeded to stand in our bedroom and bark, until I grabbed him up and held him down in a wrestler's choke hold until the barking was reduced to a few "boofs" every minute or so.

I peaced out and went to work, but Joey had the awesome task of taking him outside and trying to get him to go pee before he left for work.  Ha.

Fast forward throughout the day, where it did brighten some with my 150-odd Facebook wall posts from well wishers (yeah, I'm bragging).

I arrived home first, and got to squeeze between the work van and the garage in order to open the garage via code, and came inside to let the dogs out. (Who let the dogs out!?!) (sorry.)

Being the undercover blonde that I am, we all went outside where there were nails, staples, and other random metal everywhere.  No, this is not when I get stabbed with a rusty metal object.  The dogs were barking like crazy at the strangers on the roof (I can't really blame them) so we hurried up, did our business, and went back inside.  Except I guess Bandit didn't remember to do his because the moment we came back in he emptied his entire bladder onto the rug.  Thanks for the birthday present old man.

I cleaned that up, got changed, put in a load of laundry, and then realized it was time to feed the dogs and nobody was home yet.  So I fed Bandit his usual half can of food and Doc his usual bite so that he doesn't feel left out (he eats solid food).  Except I looked over in time to catch Doc eating the rest of Bandit's dinner.  10 minutes and more barking later, Doc threw up his dinner all over the rug.  A little too much excitement, yes?  Also too much canine bodily fluids, thankyouverymuch.

Finally everyone got home and Joey arrived with 2 balloons (Disney Princess and Dog in Sunglasses) a card, and Winese for dinner (that's wine and chinese, duh).  I was outside with MIL and the dogs, both on leashes this time, and we came back inside.  THAT is when I stepped on a roofing nail, and it went all the way through my flip flop and into my heel.

In all seriousness, it wasn't that bad.  But I realized I hadn't had a tetanus shot in.............. um............. ????????????? I don't remember. At all.  Joey made fun of me a million times, but I decided to go to the clinic today after work just to be safe.  And lucky me, I got a triple vaccination!

FYI you are supposed to get this vaccination every 10 years.  I would recommend it for anyone that is planning on having kids since Whooping Cough is really dangerous.  Joey doesn't know it but he'll be in that clinic eventually getting the same shot.  Sucks!!

Hope you are all up to date on your immunizations!!!

Happy Birthday to ME!

On July 18, 1984 at some time in the afternoon which I do not remember but my Mom always tries to text me at the exact moment so maybe I will update later today with the exact time I was born...

I was born at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, PA as Sarah Elizabeth Davis at 6 pounds and something ounces.  And some inches long.

[Sorry, I don't know any of the info. Maybe if my Mom sees this she'll send me the information...]

27 years later, I live in DC, I'm a Gish, and I'm Mom to a little obnoxious Min Pin.

I went through my Facebook and some older means of photo sharing (helloooo Webshots!)  and picked out a few memorable birthday photos to share.

Down Periscope!

This week I went on a work trip to the Seattle area.

So-what does that have to do with the hilariously stupid Kelsey Grammer movie after which this blog is titled?

Well I got to tour a submarine while I was there!  Sometimes it really pays to know people.  I am adding this on my "bucket-list-that-I'm-making-as-I-check-off-items" along with throwing out the first pitch at an MLB game, etc.

The cool thing about the tour of the USS Alabama (Roll tide!) was that it was a personal tour given by the CO.  That's "Commanding Officer", or CAPTAIN if you will.  So me and my pal Gage were VVVIP visitors.  Guests of the CO.  We ate lunch in the wardroom (officer's dining room) aboard the boat with linen tablecloths, real silver, china with USS Alabama insignia, etc.  We met each of the officers and learned about the boat and its' history.  It was really cool to see military traditions in practice.  Such as requesting permission to enter and leave the room, and waiting for the CO to take the first bite of lunch.

After lunch we got a tour of the entire boat.  You can find more information about the USS Alabama at this link.

Before we left, the CO gave us a coin to commemorate our experience.  It's an actual Commanding Officer's coin.  Pretty rare to get one of those.

Here's a blurry pic of it that I excitedly sent Joey when we got back to the hotel:

Since we were on a personal tour, we also had our picture taken on the brow (the gangplank), and at the periscope.

It was a long week with a packed schedule and alot of work. So I am really glad to be home.  But I also wanted to share my cool experience with you!

House Update

This post is way overdue.

So I thought the moment we "got" a house we'd take a picture of me, Joey and Doc outside of it with a SOLD sign and huge smiles and rainbows, unicorns and butterflies.

But the process has been so painstaking that at this point, I'm SO over the idea of a cute little photo and I JUST WANT TO BE IN MY DAMN HOUSE.

Let me annotate our adventure for you:

February 2011: We went house hunting and found a short sale we liked.  We put in an offer and it was ratified and then we started the 60 day waiting process that accompanies all short sales.

March 2011: We got tired of the terrible selling agent who did not know what she was doing, found another short sale in the same neighborhood, put in an offer and got ratified, and started the 60 day waiting process on THAT one.

April-June 2011: We waited.

June 2011: We were still waiting for said short sale when a foreclosure in Joey's parent's neighborhood dropped in price by almost 40k.  We went to go look at it because MIL is a real estate agent and was curious.  We loved it.  We put in an offer.

3 Days Later:  We were approved on the foreclosure.

2 Days After That: The short sale approval came through.

**Holy crap, we were approved on 2 houses at once**

After alot of deliberation (do I REALLY want to live 10 houses down from my in-laws??) we decided to go with the kick-a$$, 3,000 sq ft, colonial "southern plantation" (yes, I'm calling it that) in the same neighborhood as Joey's parents.

We have been approved and should have the final word from the loan underwriter early next week.  Our closing date will be in late August.

So... there was no "announcement".  Because honestly at this point who knows if we will actually get the place (I am SO skeptical about anything 'house' at this point).

But the good news is we are 95% of our way to being home owners.  And I actually am really excited.  It helps that Joey's Grandma bought us a bedroom set.  Which was really cool considering our current "set" consists of an old bed, random IKEA furniture, and a lamp from like junior year in college...

Whoop! New Bedroom Set!

But that's the update.  I promise to act more excited (and share pictures) once we have the actual keys IN HAND.

SURPRISE!!!

This past weekend was the birthday of a very important person: Miss Amanda Love!  After weeks of planning, her roommates/boyfriend/me were able to pull off a fabulous surprise party that completely shocked her and made it the best birthday ever!

About a month ago we started brainstorming about how to celebrate her birthday.  The theme was determined (Beatles!) and plans were in the works.

It was hard to keep everything a secret. Major kudos to her boyfriend, Ryan, because I just avoided her all week.  I don't know how he saw her every day and didn't slip up!

It was a great party, even the thunderstorm in the middle did not ruin the good time.  Mental note: ALWAYS have a dress up/photo booth from now on.

Here are a few photos from the party:
