I have some big news!

…But I can’t share it yet.  And what you are thinking about RIGHT NOW is the reason why I am writing this.

I am not pregnant! And I guess I just get really annoyed when that is the first thing people come up with.  The moment we got engaged, it was like people skipped the wedding all together and wanted to know when we are having kids.  I know it’s innocent and in no way meant to be malicious but it’s also pretty rude.  I don’t know if I feel like telling you about my sex life…. Ya know?

I can’t post ANYTHING vague on Facebook because people automatically assume.  I don’t necessarily blame them for their curiosity and excitement, but I wish people wouldn’t blatantly ASK me.  What happens if we’ve already been trying and we CAN’T get pregnant?!?! How would you feel knowing that?  It is not true, but what if it was???

A good friend and fellow blogger, Kelly, wrote this post a little while back.  It encompasses my feelings about the subject pretty well (minus the whole Catholic thing, but the last part is pretty funny).

So, please be polite and let my husband and I figure out when we’re going to have a sibling for Doc and Chloe.  And I promise, PROMISE,  PROMISEEEEE that you guys will be among the first to know ;)

Halloween Recap

Just wanted to share a quick recap:
Halloween was a success at the Gish household!  When the evening started, I was worried we wouldn't get too many trick or treaters.  But we ended up going through 3 bags of candy!  I didn't wear a "costume", per se, but I did wear the mouse ears I acquired in Disney World 2 weeks ago (quick cruise pit stop) and some other Halloweeny stuff.  Doc was a bumble bee.  I didn't necessarily plan for him to be a bumble bee but for 5 bucks at Walmart, it sounds like a plan.  Even though I'd LOVE to buy an elaborate costume for him, I'd get chewed out for it and really, I'd rather spend $50 on new shoes or something...

I did have to apologize for my barking bumble bee throughout the night ("he's all buzz and no sting!") but we also used it as a sort of training opportunity.  I would answer the door while Joey distracted him with treats (and made him do tricks!).  We also put up the baby gates because the first time the doorbell rang he went tearing off to the little windows on either side of the door and was visciously defending his home.  Lucky for us most of the kids wanted to know what kind of dog he was and/or tell me about their dog.  Kids are so funny.

In terms of decorations, we didn't have much.  I didn't really go out an get decorations for the house because we are still working on things like.... curtains.  So we don't really have any business buying Halloween crap.  So I just used what we already had.  Not spectacular, but we lit up the place like a Christmas tree so the kids would know it was a candy-giving house.

My astronaut.  Just another prop I bought for the cruise that didn't end up being worn.  So Joey wore it for ~5 minutes while he drank a beer and lit the pumpkin because I thought I was going to burn my fingers off.

Before we gave away all our candy, I'd say we had about 20-25 Trick-or-Treaters.  We decided to call it a night a little after 9 when a group of 6 middle school-age boys pulled up in their parents SUV.  They were clearly being driven all over town.  Majorly frowning upon that. I said on my Facebook that I don't have a problem with a parent driving their kid around due to health reasons or safety reasons. But when you are doing it because your greedy kid is trying to collect as much free stuff as possible/doesn't want to WALK to do it.... then I will judge you.

And now my rant is over.

We checked left and right to make sure no more LEGIT Trick-or-Treaters were coming up the street, then we blew out the candles and turned off all the lights.  And watched the football game.

Happy Halloween to all and to all a good November!!

Issues

So I keep trying to write a blog about the saga between Direct TV and Verizon Fios, and more stuff keeps happening so I keep thinking I'll write the blog when the saga is over.  Except it's NEVER over!! Well, it's sort of over... I think.

So the same day I wrote that blog about whether to choose Direct TV and Football or Verizon and faster internet, I found out that Verizon has a DEAL with Direct TV where you can get the best of both worlds. Except they don't tell you about it when you call because obviously they want to sell you Verizon service because they get paid more commission for that.  It sucks being a customer these days.

So after much confusion, we ended up with a triple play from Verizon that has the high speed internet, phone service, AND the Direct TV.  WINNING, right?!  Wrong.

Last Sunday we woke up all early (for a Sunday!) at 8 when the Direct TV guy showed up.  He took one look at our ALREADY INSTALLED dish from the previous owners and let us know that our trees were too tall and too bad so sorry you can't get Direct TV and he left.  Ummmmm so there went our lovely day of watching football at the new house.

So I called Direct TV to cancel our service, and the lady on the line was like "hold up wait a minute WHAT happened?" and "he didn't give you any other options" Um, no.  So she said she'd send out another technician on Wednesday, meaning Joey had to make up a reason to get out of work because of course they can only come on the weekdays in the middle of the day because nobody has a full time job…

So yesterday the Direct TV guy showed up at 1:30.  And he left around 8pm.  I hardly even want to get into the reason he was there for so long because I am still furious about it, but somewhere in the mix he told Joey that we couldn't receive HD in the bedroom so we had to change the order to standard definition in one room. And then I got 8 phone calls while I was at work and each time I had to explain that I WAS NOT AT THE HOUSE and that they needed to call their technician and stop trying to up-sell me to HD when I was told I CANT have HD in that room.

And then 4 hours later Joey calls and says that apparently it was a big misunderstanding and we CAN have HD in the bedroom.  And 4 hours after THAT and a ton of other problems, including them canceling our entire order and us having to call Direct TV and PLACE A BRAND NEW ORDER AT 7PM and the technician walking all over my newly cleaned and polished wood floor with dusty boots, he finally left us with working TVs.

Seriously. It was that traumatic.

And OH BY THE WAY, we have no phone or internet service because apparently there is no connectivity running to our house. So that was supposed to happen yesterday too. But it didn't. So the Disney Trip Reports and Disney Photo posting are just going to have to wait. Sorry in advance to all my stalkers.

And here's one more issues that I would like to rant about.  Our mortgage company decided to immediately sell our loan.  Effective October 1. Which is also the date our first EVER payment is due.  And I called the new company and they are saying not to send in the payment until October 7? Which would make it late? But they are saying something about a grace period? What? I am so confused and all I want to do is pay my mortgage and not worry about the check getting lost in the mail on the way to CALIFORNIA.

OK I'm done now. Thanks for listening!!!!
