As we enjoy our kickoff to summer, let's take the time to remember what Memorial Day is REALLY about.

Steako de Mayo!

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo yesterday, Joey and I met up with Casey (Peyton's girlfriend, remember? From the Disney write up?) at Los Toltecos for some authentic celebration.  We knew it was going to be packed, but we didn't realize:

a) They were going to run out of pagers, and they weren't writing down NAMES

b) They ran out of cups, so people were drinking out of solo cups

c) There was no actual "wait time" as it was the holiday and people were staying at their tables forever

So we headed up to the steakhouse next door.

We were still able to get some margaritas and queso.  Whatever.

...We also had a surprise dinner guest!  Casey was thrilled that Peyton came all the way from Baghdad to join us for dinner!

There will be no April Fools joke today...

Due to the ever increasing number of people who decide that any time I
am ever excited about ANYTHING where the details are somewhat vague that
I must be pregnant.

This DOES remind me of the time in college that me and my BFF decided we
would call our parents and tell them we got a DUI. Total April Fools
fail. I mean, after my Mom calmed down she actually thought it was funny
and pulled it on my Dad. But in retrospect that's probably not too cool
of a joke to begin with.

Anybody have any doozies?

Joey's Birthday!

And now it's time for yet another exciting post about my personal life! 
(Material is lacking lately, but I have a few good ideas in mind so just hang in there.)

This weekend, my husband turned 26! This is a big deal cause now we're the same age. For 4 months, I'm not robbing the cradle!

We had kind of a low key birthday weekend.  I guess as you get older, birthdays get less and less fun.  Which is doubly depressing for me, as I always throw myself a huge extravaganza with a theme and free alcohol for whoever comes dressed the part.  (July. Stay tuned.  I have some big ideas.)

On his birthday morning, Joey woke up and the first thing he said was, "Hey, don't worry about waiting til later.  You can give me my plane tickets and park hopper pass now.  Where are we staying? Old Key West?" (Referring to Disney World, if you didn't catch on).  As I started to say "Sorry, not this birthday", he responded, "Oh... Saratoga Springs then?"

Unfortunately I did not have a Disney Vacation to give him.  Even his card was kind of messed up because as I went to write his name on the envelope, I simultaneously yelled at the dog for something and so there is a big "D" on the card instead of a J.... Happy Birthday Doey...

We were lucky enough to have some good friends meet us for dinner at a new Hibachi place near our house.  Before dinner, Joey and I stopped off at an old haunt, Buffalo Wing University to grab a beer.  I guess being in our old stomping grounds made us feel bold, so we each chugged a "wrong island" bomb  (and immediately regretted it) and then headed off to dinner.

After dinner, a few of us headed to the bowling alley, where I bowled a mean 65 (ok kidding, I don't remember what my score was but it was equally bad) and Joey got showed up by best man Teddy.  He was quite bitter. My sister even put in an appearance (from PA!) and we all had a splendiferous time.

The next day we had dinner with some of Joey's family.  The highlight of the day came when it was time to eat cake.  Joey's not a huge fan of cake, dessert, or anything sweet for that matter- but he does love him some cheesecake.

So Joey's birthday was a little low key, yes.  Why so cheap?  Not because I don't love him....
I GUESS I should probably admit that the reason we are being so thrifty is that we put a contract on a house and are waiting to hear about it.... so it's probably a good idea that we stop spending money all willy nilly (was that the pizza guy at the door?).... right... well we are trying!!

Christmas Wrap Up

Instead of doing what millions of bloggers will do today (blogging about what they got for Christmas), I’m going to blog about what I GAVE for Christmas.  Since both are boring, I figure I’ll at least be able to explain my rationale for some of the more creative gifts.

My Mom- Disney Gift Card
An obvious choice, her love for Disney combined with an upcoming cruise made this one easy.  Manicure? Massage? A few drinks? Whatever she wants, she gets!

My Brother- PSU Golf Towel and Club Head Cover
PSU Grad, Golf enthusiast. Easy and spirited.

My Sister-Harry Potter Mug
This mug is SO COOL.  It was so cool that I took it out of the packaging to try it out before I wrapped it back up and gave it to her…so it was slightly used…whatever. It is a black mug that says “I solemnly swear I am up to no good” and when you pour hot liquid in it, it changes white and says “Mischief Managed”.  So freakin cool!

I also got her a pair of flats that go in a little pouch and fit in your purse.  Totally useful considering my own experience of walking barefoot through DC because my feet hurt…

Golf is the theme this year apparently.  Joey loves his new golf bag (it has an insulated beverage pocket!) and we are going to Kenny Chesney on June 4th!

My Dad- And this one was my favorite… Fake Parakeet in a Cage
OK this one obviously merits an explanation.  Ever since our parakeet, Noel, died a few years ago my Dad has been campaigning for a new one.  And when I say campaigning I DO mean spam emails, Facebook accounts, “Parakeets Clearing House” notifications in my inbox, etc.  He already has the name picked out and wants a green one.  Well my Mom is totally anti-parakeet.  So it has become a bit of a holiday…tradition (?) in my house.  Dad wants a parakeet and Mom says no.  So this year I did some googling (which I am SUPER good at) and found a life-sized, stuffed green and yellow parakeet.  Perfect.  Paired with a $10 cage from amazon.com, it was all ready to go!

All I Want for Christmas...

Is some FOLLOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And a side of COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW there are lots of readers out there- I watch my ticker (duh, that's what it's there for) and many of you have told me how much you like my blog.  So why not follow me?! Giving Thanks

Yes, I know this is late.  I was away from a computer all weekend and I REALLY don't think you wanted to see the aftermath of me trying to blog from a blackberry...

I hope everyone had a safe, happy, and delicious day.  I can’t believe it is already this time of year! Of course I sort of expected it with the wedding and honeymoon bringing us straight up to Halloween.  So here we are, on the weekend of our firstThanksgiving!

Doc is really excited to eat all the turkey and other leftover treats from our dishes.  I REALLY wanted to get this turkey costume for him, but it would have been too last minute and I would have had to overnight it… $80 for Doc to be looking like a turkey? Not quite priceless…

We spent Thanksgiving at Joey’s Grandma’s house.  We thought about doing our own Thanksgiving but let’s get real.  I’m a sucky cook anyway, and there is no way I’d attempt an entire Thanksgiving meal (including a turkey) for just the two (three? Does Doc count?) of us to eat. So we packed up and headed a few miles south for the big meal.  I missed my family.  It is hard living so far away from them.  I know they had a delicious day too and that we will see them soon.

Now comes the time where I say what I am thankful for.  It’s really hard to encompass everything, but here’s a shot.  I’m thankful for my new husband, for BOTH of my families, my best friend-Doc, our ability/opportunity to work for our money and the apartment in which we live, all of my friends, sushi, football, Discovery Channel, and Disney World.

OK that’s enough for now, it was starting to sound like Kevin’s prayer in “Home Alone”…
I hope each of you had a very happy Thanksgiving, ate lots of turkey, watched lots of football, and enjoyed your day(s) off.
